Retaining Walls, Rock Walls, Oregon Coast

If you live at or have visited the beautiful Central Oregon Coast, you most likely have seen retaining walls constructed with “soft boulders”, block or concrete materials which have failed. These failures are often caused by the “perfect storm” of mistakes in design, preparation of supporting sub-bases, poor construction methods, and/or by using the wrong materials for a specific purpose.

The Dave Stafford Excavating Company is one of the leaders in the construction and design of retaining and seawalls. We will do the job “right the first time”. We have built and repaired retaining walls and seawalls along the Oregon Coast since 1994. One of our “secrets” is using only the finest and most appropriate materials and products available. Only pre-engineered block systems, reinforced concrete, decorative hard boulders, and Pacific Ocean-worthy basalt rip rap is used by our company. Our on-call engineer helps us figure it out “right the first time”.

We often are asked to remove failed retaining walls which were poorly constructed from silt stone (a soft sedimentary clay-silt “boulder-look-alike” that is not actually rock), and construct in its place a structural and very attractive “real rock” wall. Don’t be fooled by soft “boulders” which in a short time will fracture, crumble and just plain go away, leaving your property unprotected from erosion, settling, landslide or whatever your retaining or seawall was intended for.
